Optimal Health Seekers – Toxicity is Your Biggest Health Threat
Posted by: | CommentsMany health experts refer to our present environment as a “toxic soup” we live in. Some would actually even state that, toxicity is our biggest health threat nowadays.
Most health care practitioners believe that toxicity is either at the core of acute and chronic illnesses or it is an obstacle to cure.
Toxicity is of much greater concern in the twenty first century than ever before. There are many new and stronger chemicals, air and water pollution, radiation and nuclear power. We ingest new chemicals, use more drugs of all kinds, eat more sugar and refined foods, and daily abuse ourselves with various stimulants and sedatives. The incidence of many toxicity diseases has increased as well. Cancer and cardiovascular disease are two of the main ones. Arthritis, allergies, obesity, and many skin problems are others. In addition, a wide range of symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, pains, coughs, gastrointestinal problems, and problems from immune weakness, can all be related to toxicity. Read More→

Detox- short Form for detoxification has negative connotations by having been glamorized as the treatment of choice for alcohol & drug addiction or overdose of starlets in the films & music industry.

Appetite Control – Healthy Lifestyle Ingredient
Posted by: | CommentsDo you crave certain foods? Are you always hungry between meals? Does your energy fluctuate depending on the foods you eat? Are you gaining weight? More than 60% of Canadians have insulin resistance, a root cause of obesity, heart disease, high cholesterol and diabetes. With insulin resistance, normal amounts of insulin are inadequate to produce a normal response from fat, muscle and liver cells. Individuals with insulin resistance have poor control over blood sugar levels and appetite. Regions of the brain responsible for appetite regulation, like the satiety centre situated behind the ears, respond to after-meal elevations in insulin by increasing glucose uptake, resulting in a decrease in appetite and sense of satiety. Think of the appetite control centre having an “off” button that only responds to insulin and fat. With insulin resistance, the appetite never shuts down.
With the obesity rates reaching epidemic proportions in the last decade, a lot of research has been done in this field. Read More→
Healthy Immunity – Fight Your Child’s Colds Naturally
Posted by: | CommentsLast October, both the American and Canadian health authorities issued strong advisories warming consumers not to give over-the-counter cough and cold medications to children without first consulting a doctor. The result was a recall of most children’s cough and cold products on the market. The warning told the consumers that children under the age of two should not use decongestants and those under the age of six should not be given antihistamine medicines. Both are commonly used to treat colds in children. One concern regarding these products is that many of them contain pharmaceutical ingredients that if combined by taking more than one product at the same time, they could lead to an overdose in children.
But what can you do to help your child fight a cold? Read More→

Winter Health For Kids
Posted by: | CommentsMost children look forward to the first snowflakes of the season. However, with the snow often follows sneezing, coughing and the chills. Colds and flu seem to arrive on cue. It is not the actual cold temperatures that cause cold and flu – it is more of the lack of good nutrition, stress, sedentary lifestyle and weakend immunity that allows us to “pick up” something. So, how can we help our kids enjoy winter, instead of spending it in bed?
BOOST IMMUNITY WITH NATURAL FOODS
Natural, healthy foods help build a healthy immune system. Warming foods are root vegetables, tomato sauces, lentils, yams, oats, and squashes. Garlic, ginger, vanilla, cinnamon and oregano are warming spices. The term warming does not imply the temperature, but rather, the effect that these foods have on the body.
Foods rich in vitamins A, C, D and E, as well as, minerals like selenium and zinc help immune system function to boost a chid`s ability to combat bacteria and viruses. Reducing intake of orange juice, and dairy products is advisable during a cold or flu, as these foods can produce mucus and may make things worse. Supplementing a child`s diet with a multi-vitamin and mineral is also beneficial. Make sure it includes vitamin D (D3) as Canadians are prone to lack of D vitamins over the winter months.
We often try to rid the body of cold and flu symptoms as soon as possible, but often the body needs time to work things out. Provide fresh water and avoid junk and processed foods. Unpasturized natural honey (choose organic) has good antibacterial properties and is effective for coughs and colds.
